Verification of Payee

"Verification of Payee" (VoP) automatically checks the recipient's name before issuing your transfers.

An automatic Protection

For every payee – old or newly added – and for all your transfers, VoP will be applied. A VoP alert? No problem, just verify your payees for added security.

Frequently Asked Questions about VoP

Security - VoP strengthens fraud prevention (identity theft, fake payees…).
Fewer Errors - VoP reduces the risk of entering an incorrect name or IBAN.
Visibility - You are immediately informed if the entered data is consistent or needs verification.

For every newly added payee, as well as for all your transfers (standard and instant), the payee's identity is systematically verified. Three results may appear on your screen: Payee Validated, Payee Name Similarity, Payee Not Validated.

No. VoP simply informs you in case of inconsistency, but you always retain the choice to execute or cancel the payment.

VoP checks the name listed on the payee’s bank details.
Tip: update the payee in your eBanking to include the full name as indicated on the payee’s RIB.

Refer to the bank account details (RIB) or the legal name of a company shown near the IBAN on an invoice. If in doubt, contact the payee.

Enter the payee using the full name of a person or the legal name of a company as indicated on the payee’s RIB, to avoid alerts or confusion.

VoP introduced by European regulation (EU) 2024/886, firstly concerns euro payments in the SEPA area (therefore SEPA transfers, SEPA instant payments, SEPA direct debits).

SEPA = 27 EU members + non-EU EEA countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) + Switzerland + Monaco + San Marino + Andorra + Vatican + United Kingdom

When VoP indicates a mismatch between the name and the bank details, it is not necessarily fraud. VoP only checks the match between the name provided by the sender and the actual name registered by the payee’s bank.
In case of “Invalid payee”, we recommend verifying the information with the payee.

If you are unsure and cannot verify with the payee, we always recommend avoiding transfers to a payee not identified by VoP.

Using VoP with MultiLine

With the launch of outgoing instant transfers in October, the VoP service will also be activated. This feature will be enabled by default for all MultiLine users.

  • Scope of application: VoP will apply to both bulk SEPA transfers and single SEPA transfers.
  • Batch transfer issuance: If VoP detects one or more anomalies, such as a partially similar name or a complete mismatch for one or more payees, the rejection or manual validation applies to the entire batch of transfers. A summary will quantify these anomalies, with a detailed view if needed.

Please note: When VoP becomes available in MultiLine, you will be able to test your payee list to identify and correct any anomalies. POST Finance encourages you to update your payee lists.

Frequently Asked Questions about MultiLine

VoP will be enabled by default at launch.
If you do not wish to use the VoP feature, please inform us of your opt-out by phone at  8002 8004 or by email at contactpro.finance@post.lu.

VoP does not prevent any transfer issuance; you can proceed with your bulk SEPA transfers if desired. However, we recommend verifying and/or updating the affected payee(s).
To do this, you must reject the entire list injected into MultiLine before making corrections.

Results will be presented in a summary table (e.g., transactions X with status 1, transactions Y with status 2, etc.), and a detailed view will be available if needed, allowing visualization of each individual transaction’s status.

Results will also be archived in a CSV file format.

Please note: depending on the VoP result, it will not be possible to validate only selected payments from the grouped file — validation must apply to the entire file or be canceled entirely.

We recommend ensuring correct entry of compound names and nicknames, and asking professional payees to provide the exact account holder name (legal name), rather than their trade name.
