Mail/Finance

Johann Daniel VOM BERG, Balance monétaire (money balance), between 1733 and 1804, wood and metal, H. 26, L. 24, D. 12 cm (Collection POST Luxembourg).

This money balance, made by Johann Daniel vom Berg between 1733 and 1804, was used to check the weight and authenticity of coins. It consists of a metal beam with two suspended trays and a wooden case containing calibrated brass weights. Used by money changers and merchants, it guaranteed the reliability of monetary transactions.

Artworks

Gast MICHELS, Sans titre, 80s, acrylic on canvas, H. 139.5, L. 94.5 cm (Collection POST Luxembourg).

This painting by Gast Michels (1954-2013), produced in the 1980s, is a fine example of the artist's plastic language. Forms sketched in black - an animal figure and abstract architectural elements - emerge from a textured background in shades of blue, white and red. This work combines spontaneity of line and graphic tension, true to the painter's expressive and symbolic approach.

Technologies

Ancien standard téléphonique, early 20th century, wood and metal, H. 24, L. 27, D. 13 cm (Collection POST Luxembourg).

This telephone switchboard from the early 20th century is a manual switch equipped with a bell and a crank on the side. Used to manage connections between several lines, it was used to establish communication between different correspondents. Its wooden case and metal components bear witness to the technical know-how of the time, illustrating the evolution of telecommunications before the automation of standards.
